Zinc Nacional Signs Environmental Responsibility Agreement with PROFEPA

After several months of work, collaboration, and a thorough technical evaluation process carried out with the participation of environmental authorities, independent specialists, and certified laboratories, covering the review of air, water, and soil quality conditions at our facility, Zinc Nacional has implemented a series of infrastructure improvements that contribute to the well‑being of the community in San Nicolás and the state of Nuevo León.

As a result of the technical assessment of air quality and stationary sources, measurements were identified well below regulatory parameters, reflecting the proper functioning of our dust control and collection systems currently in operation.

In the case of soil, the measurements identified a specific area of opportunity within the property, associated with the historical presence of materials on-site and with the company that previously operated on the premises. The elements identified remain contained in the soil, without dispersing into the air or being carried toward nearby bodies of water during rainfall.

In acknowledgment of this finding, we have initiated a formal remediation program with the competent authority and technical specialists. This program includes corrective measures and broader voluntary actions such as: expanding the raw materials receiving building; constructing 9,000 m² of enclosed structures to cover our materials yard; paving more than 2,300 m² of internal roads; relocating bulk materials to enclosed areas; reducing inventories by 35%; strengthening our cleaning program with three daily shifts; and maintaining constant humidification using mist cannons and treated water. In addition, a stormwater collection basin is currently under construction to enable more efficient management of rainwater.

We will relocate the processes with the highest industrial load outside the residential area once the corresponding environmental permits have been obtained and the feasibility study for this project has been completed.

These efforts are complemented by a reforestation plan covering more than five hectares within our facility using native species, as well as the strengthening of our nursery, which produces more than 3,000 plants per year and maintains approximately 4,000 specimens of various species.

Through all these actions, we will reduce the environmental footprint of our operations, continue strengthening local employment, expand green areas, and maintain our support for educational and sports programs in the San Nicolás community.

We reaffirm our commitment to continued collaboration with authorities and neighboring communities under a vision of open dialogue, continuous improvement, and scientific evidence.

At Zinc Nacional, we continue moving forward responsibly, supported by more than 70 years of experience, the dedication of our employees, and a circular economy model that sets us apart in the industry. Our legacy is built day by day through actions that reflect who we are and where we aim to go: a solid, reliable company committed to the well‑being of its surroundings.
